A lot of homes in Gwinnett, Cobb, and North Fulton were built with hardboard or wood siding. When the paint fails, water soaks into the bottom edges and the boards swell, crack, and eventually rot.
Start by walking the house. Press on the lower courses, the boards near downspouts, and the areas around windows and doors. Soft spots, swollen edges, and paint that peels in the same places every year all point to water getting in.
If the damage is limited to a handful of boards, repair is usually the right call. We replace the damaged pieces with a matching profile, fix any flashing or wrap behind them, then caulk, prime, and paint so the repair blends in.
When damage is spread across whole walls, or the siding underneath keeps failing after repairs, replacing that section or the whole house costs less over time. Either way, a written quote should spell out exactly which boards are being replaced and why.
