An exterior repaint protects your siding and trim as much as it improves curb appeal. In Metro Atlanta, most homes need one every seven to ten years, sooner on the sides that take the afternoon sun.
Timing matters. Spring and fall give the best conditions: mild temperatures and lower humidity help paint cure properly. Summer works too, but crews should start early and avoid painting walls in direct midday sun. Pollen season is a good reason to wash the house right before painting.
Prep is most of the job. That means washing the siding, scraping loose paint, replacing rotted boards, caulking gaps around trim and windows, and spot-priming bare wood. Paint over a dirty or failing surface and it will peel within a couple of years.
Finally, choose a quality exterior acrylic and apply enough of it. Two coats on the sunny sides and trim is usually worth it. Ask your painter what product they're using and how many coats are included in the quote.
